Oneida County Solid Waste Department Takes Drugs!
I’m in a rather dimly lit room with the obligatory two way mirrors. Thank goodness they don’t have the single big incandescent bulb. These guys are using fluorescents… much lower carbon emissions ya’ know.

“All right Mr. Sexton” says one of the gentlemen with a big, white lettered acronym across the back of his windbreaker, “let’s go over this one more time…”

“Certainly” I answered, “It’s really quite simple you see. We want people to bring in their out of date or no longer needed medications to us.”

“So you admit you’re asking people to bring you drugs!” says number one, or at least if this was Star Trek this dude would obviously be Number One, although the head honcho is sure no Picard…

“Look”, I said somewhat exasperated, “we are trying to get these old medications collected so that they can be properly disposed of”

“WE!... WE!! So you’re telling me there’s others involved!”, shouts Picard wannabe.

“Why sure, there’s Diane and Sue at DoA, Linda and Crystal in the Health Department, the nice folks up at the Lakeland Senior Center, a number of local pharmacists like Lloyd, Corky, Michelle, Tom, Jan & Chris and even Kim & Jim from the Sheriff’s Department!”

“Holy Cow!, the local cops are in on this too?!!”, exclaims Number One.

“Why, we couldn’t do this without them!”, answered I. Two of the ‘wind breakered ones’ left the room very quickly for some reason at this point.

“We’re having one collection at the Lakeland Senior Center on October 13th and another at the Oneida Senior Center by Hodag Park on November 9th. We’ll take folks’ old meds and ensure they’re properly disposed of for a buck a pound.”

Picard has obviously had enough. “Now just wait a minute, you’re not too smart are you? Sitting there singing like a canary, giving names, dates, locations and stating that you expect people to pay YOU to take THEIR drugs? What, are you hoping to make it onto Nancy Grace tonight?”

“Sure! That would be great publicity! Did you know we made it on Leno last year?”

… turns out that, that last comment was a BIG mistake on my part.

So it appears that Bart won’t be able to make it to either of these upcoming medication collections, at least if I’m to believe defense counsel. Corp Counsel isn’t returning my calls and the home phone has been disconnected. But, no worries here, we’ll get it worked out.

The point, however, is if you’re throwing old meds down the drain or in the garbage, that’s a real crime!
